Philip Earl Palmatier

August 23, 1936 — May 24, 2026

Philip Earl Palmatier, born August 23, 1936, in Hastings, Michigan, passed away leaving behind a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for those around him. The son of Earl and Dorothy Palmatier, Phil pursued education with purpose, earning his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and Master's degrees from the University of Michigan and the Air Force Institute of Technology, Dayton, Ohio.

In 1960, Phil began a distinguished career as a Naval Officer, serving with integrity for more than 25 years before retiring as a Captain in 1986. After his military service, he continued contributing to his community as a small business owner of Raspberries Natural Food Store and as a longstanding member and officer in the local Rotary Club, bringing the same commitment and steady leadership that defined his time in uniform.

Phil will be remembered most for his humor, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family and friends. He had a gift for lifting spirits and offering help without hesitation, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by Marie, his beloved wife of 61 years; his children Sarah Kathryn, Clare duFort, and Thomas Emile, five grandchildren: Cole Singin, Tabitha Alexis, Waylon Thomas, Leo Charles, Margot Jane, two great-grandchildren, Parker and Elise all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

Phil's life was one of purpose, kindness, and connection. His memory will continue to inspire those he loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Wednesday June 24, 2026 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad Street, Charleston. The Rite of Committal with Military Honors will follow at 2:00 PM at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Ronald McDonald House, 81 Gadsden St, Charleston, SC 29401, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
