Philip Brooks Cannon, Jr

Lt. Col. Philip Brooks Cannon, Jr.(USA Ret.), 86, entered into eternal rest on November 11, 2011 at the Veterans Victory House. He was born on January 1, 1925 in Jacksonville, FL. a son of Philip Brooks Cannon, Sr. and Ernestine Bailey Cannon. He attended Charleston County Schools and upon graduation from Edisto Island High School, he enlisted in what was then known as the Army of the US. Philip served his country with pride and courage, earning his commission in the field. He served in the European, African, Asian and Pacific theaters, during W.W.II. After discharge Philip served in the Army Reserves and National Guard for a total of 34 years of military service. Philip enjoyed all things automotive and spent many years in all facets of that industry. He also retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Shipfitter. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Survivors include a son, Philip H. Cannon (Cathleen) of Petaluma, CA. daughters, Katherine C. Norris (Rev. James F. III) of Estill, SC and Ernestine C. "Tina" Doscher (Richard) of Charleston, SC.; Sisters, Ernestine C. Fellers (Frederick G.), Charleston, SC and Mary Elizabeth Seabrook (Samuel G) of Washington, DC.; Grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Smith (Joel), Benjamin (Michelle) and Alexander Cannon, Katherine Julie and Elizabeth Norris: one great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Smith and nieces and nephews. Philip was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Elizabeth C. Henley (Olin). Elizabeth Hart Cannon, his former wife and mother of his children, also survives him. Philip was a life long Presbyterian. The relatives and friends of Mr. Philip Brooks Cannon, Jr., are invited to attend his graveside funeral service at 2:00PM, Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Edisto Island, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be sent to Veterans Victory House, 2461 Sidney's Rd., Walterboro, SC 29488, where he has been a resident for more than 4 years.
