Patricia Ellen Phillips Mazzell, 80, of Charleston, wife of Walker Mazzell, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 20, 2018. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Walker Mazzell are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 PM Tuesday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Pat was born on March 23, 1937, in Jacksonville, Florida, a daughter of Emory and Mary Phillips. She attended Bishop England High School and completed coursework for professional secretaries at Trident Tech and the College of Charleston.Pat worked as a secretary at the SC Department of Social Services, the Charleston Area Mental Health Center, Emergicare, and Heartland. She spent many years as a dedicated volunteer with the USO, as an election poll worker, Camp High Hopes, the March of Dimes and as a girls’ softball coach. Pat loved life to the fullest. Traveling was a passion, as was spending time with her family. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and games.Pat is survived by her beloved husband, Walker Mazzell, four children, Sandy Scarborough, Jeanette Holly, Karen Proctor, and David Mazzell, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a brother, Emory L. Phillips, Jr. (Marlene), her sisters, Elizabeth Latt (Skip) and Irene Seyle (Willard). She was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Mary Phillip, and a brother, William Phillips.
