Norman, affectionately known as "Nummie", was born in Charleston on October 25,1958, a son of Ferdinan Legare Backer Stevenson and Norman Williams Stevenson.
Nummie grew up at Old Town, known today as Charles Towne Landing, property in the Legare family since 1878. His grandmother, Ferdi, meticulously restored the property with thousands of Azaleas, Camillias and the majestic avenue of Live Oaks that exist today. He was surrounded by the natural beauty contributing to his love of the outdoors.
Nummie was a longtime member of the Carolina Yacht Club, an avid outdoorsman and an exceptional everyman. He enjoyed deer hunting at Rabbit Point on Edisto, his Cabin, fishing anywhere and the friendships and comradery that went along with it.
Nummie enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, dogs and cats in Charleston and his cabin near Floyd, Virginia in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
He was predeceased by his father, "Big Num", his mother, Nancy and a brother, Christopher Moltke-Hansen (Chrissy).
A friend to all and stranger to none, Norman is survived by his wife, JoAnn, his three daughters, Rebecca Legare Stevenson, Emma Ross Stevenson and Ferdinand Margaret Stevenson (Nancy), his sisters, Ferdinan Legare Stevenson (Ferdi), Josephine Stevenson Oakley (Josie) and her husband, Mike, his brother, David Moltke-Hansen as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and way too many friends to mention that he considered family.
