Mr. Norman Gene Brooks, widower of Dorothy "Dot" Brooks, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014. The relatives and friends of Mr. Norman Brooks are invited to attend a Gathering of Friends & Family between 6 and 8 PM Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Online condolences may be offered at www.JamesAMcAlister.com. A native of Richmond, VA, Norm was the son of the late Warnie and Hazel Brooks. He spent much of his life in Indiana, where he graduated high school before entering the lumber and construction industry, finally retiring as a contractor. Norm lived for over 30 years in the Charleston area, where he met his loving wife Dot, who recently passed away. He was an active member of the Power Squadron and the SASS (Single-Action Shooting Society). Norm is survived by his 3 children: Brian, Jeff Brooks and wife Jodi, Lisa Barglof and husband Dennis; 3 grandchildren: Jared (Elisa), Austin Brooks, Samantha Barglof; 1 great-grandchild, Levi Brooks; 1 sister, Marcheta Brooks. He is also survived by Dot's children, whom he loved as his own: Tonia Windham, Kim Cramer (Steve), Charles Windham, Jr., William Windham and Felecia Bostick (Barney), as well as her 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Nead, whose husband Bob survives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
