Nellie Gladys Sharpe Romanosky

August 24, 1927 — July 13, 2018

Nellie Gladys Sharpe Romanosky, of Johns Island, South Carolina, died peacefully at her home on July 13, 2018. She was born on August 24, 1928, to Joseph and Eula Sharpe in Burlington, North Carolina. She grew up in Shelby, North Carolina, and moved to Charleston in 1945 to enter the former Rice Business College. While attending Rice, she began work as a legal secretary for the law firm of Buist & Buist at 30 Broad Street. Upon graduation, she quickly moved to the law firm of Legare & Hare on March 15, 1948, (later known as Legare, Hare & Smith). Nell enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in July of 1949 and soon met U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Captain John E. Romanosky. The couple were married in May, 1951, and Nell was honorably discharged from the United States Naval Reserve in July, 1953. While at the law firm of Legare, Hare & Smith, she successfully completed the LaSalle Correspondence Law Course, which made her eligible at the time to apply for licensing and bar examination as an attorney. With the birth of her first child in 1952, she decided to devote more time and attention as a mother and abandoned her plan to become a lawyer. She remained with the law firm of Legare, Hare & Smith until she retired in 2012. Nell was a member of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul.

She is survived by her husband, John; a son, John Romanosky, Jr. (Sheila); two daughters, Jenifer Lynne Romanosky and Lisa Camille Romanosky; and two grandchildren, Anna Kathryn Romanosky and Caroline Romanosky McGee (Jason).
