Mildred "Tunkey" Louise Fischer Kennerty, 83, widow of Daniel F. Kennerty, Sr., died Friday, November 21, 2014. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Mildred F. Kennerty are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday, November 24th at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM. Tunkey was born on May 8, 1931 in Charleston, SC, a daughter of Charles L. Fischer and Mildred L. Green Fischer. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School, St. Francis Xavier School of Nursing, and Mercy Hospital School of Anesthesia in Pittsburg. Mildred was a past President of St. Francis Xavier Alumnae, Catholic Woman's Club, SC Assn. of Nurses Anesthetists, SC Catholic Nurses Assn., Charleston Recovery Room Assn., and Charleston Post Anesthesia Nurses. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church Woman's Guild and Blessed Sacrament Bereavement Committee. Tunkey was the retired owner/operator and instructor at Charleston Riding Stables at Ashley Hall Plantation. Mildred is survived by a daughter, Kathleen K. Weatherford of Charleston; a son, Daniel F. Kennerty, Jr. of Wadmalaw Island; four grandchildren, Daniel G. Weatherford, Angela K. Weatherford, Mariel D. Kennerty and Daniel F. Kennerty, III; a great grandson Joshua Mark; sister, Charlotte Fischer Young; and a host of cousins. The family would like to give a special thanks to those who traveled great distances to be here and for their support.
