Mikell Bernard White

July 28, 1950 — May 21, 2024

Mikell Bernard White, Sr., 73, of Charleston, SC, husband of Robyn Lopez-White, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Mikell was born on July 28, 1950, in Charleston, SC, the son of the late Charles E. White and Miriam M. White.

His Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated 12:00 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, 2728 Spruill Ave, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mikell attended both Parochial and Public Schools on the Charleston peninsula. Mikell established himself as a dependable and brave firefighter for the North Charleston District Fire Department for over 23 years culminating in his retirement as Fire Captain. He was a faithful member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Broad Street in Charleston where he served as a member of the Men’s Club. As an active church member, he enjoyed success coaching boys’ basketball at The Charleston Catholic School. In addition, he served as the Lunch Coordinator at the school for many years.

Mikell was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. White; mother, Miriam M. White; brothers, Charles E. White, III and Larry J. White; and sister Eleanor Noisette.

Mikell is survived by his wife, Robyn Lopez-White; his sons, Jaime Lopez-White (Christen), Renaldo Lopez-White (Anna), Darryall White (Bianca), Mikell White, Jr., and daughter Eleanor Chisholm (Tyrae); his grandchildren Jaylen Lopez-White, Lennon Lopez-White, William Singleton, De’Kao Singleton, Sr., Di’Jion Singleton, Tyrae Chisholm, Jr., Hartley White and Houston White; great grandchildren De’Kao Singleton, Jr. and De’Jaunte Singleton. Mikell is also survived by his sisters, Jeanette M. Andrews, Angelyn Henderson and brother-in-law, Andre Lopez; a host of nephews, nieces and faithful family and friends, too numerous to list.
