Michael Anthony Uricchio, Sr.

January 20, 1953 — March 7, 2024

Michael Anthony Uricchio, Sr., 71, father to three sons, Michael A. Uricchio, Jr. (Krista Collier), Nicholas B. Uricchio (Morgan) and Jacob K. Uricchio, all of Charleston, SC, died Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Michael was born January 20, 1953, in Charleston, SC, a son of the late Paul “The Pope” N. Uricchio, Jr. and the late Mamie Odom Uricchio. He grew up with his brother, Paul “Ricky” Uricchio (deceased) and his sister, Debra U. Myers. Michael attended Bishop England High School and graduated from St. Andrews High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina, School of Law in 1988. Michael practiced law in Charleston for over 35 years.

Michael was a man of many talents with a bigger personality. He grew up in South Windermere in West Ashley. During his teenage years, Michael would regularly hitchhike to Folly Beach. He along with his life-long friend, Casimer “Bubba” Kowalski, were some of the first surfers on Folly Beach. During this time, Michael also received a black belt in Ju Jitsu.

Later in life, Michael fell in love with speed. He raced stock cars at Summerville Speedway and earned the nick name “Wreckamo Uricchio”. He was honored with "the wreck of the century" award when his car flipped down the front stretch of the speedway. Micheal also was an avid motorcycle rider for many years.

Never a person to shy away from a new challenge, Michael taught himself how to paint with pastels. He was honored to be a past President of the Pastel Society of Charleston.

Over the years Michael helped countless people with their addiction issues. He was always there to help people along on their path to sobriety or other problems and made many friends along the way.

In addition to his three sons and his sister he is survived by his grandson, Taylor Pope Uricchio and his step grandson, Lake Fisk (Michael Jr); Plaintiff #1, Claire Hoefer (mother of Michael and Nicholas); Plaintiff # 2, Sandy Senn (Mother of Jacob); his sister- in-law, Nancy Uricchio (Ricky); his life-long friend, O. Grady Query; three nieces, a nephew, many cousins and his beloved dachshunds, Oz and Zeus.

Michael's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad Street. The Rite of Committal will be private. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Monday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savanah Highway.
