McFarland (Mike) Heard Mikell, Jr., widower of Patricia Ann Duc Mikell, entered into eternal rest on January 31, 2018, at the age of 79. The relatives and friend of McFarland H. Mikell, Jr., are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Christ Our King Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 PM, Monday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM.
Mr. Mikell was born on October 16, 1938, in Chesnee, South Carolina, a son of McFarland Heard Mikell and Jessie Smith Mikell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 57 years, Patricia Duc Mikell.
As a member of the Boy Scouts of America, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Mr. Mikell attended the Citadel and left to serve in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany from 1958 until 1961. He returned to the U.S. and served in the Army Reserves until 1965. He was a founding partner in Dickinson, Mikell and Comar, Inc. where he worked as a licensed customs broker. Mr. Mikell was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Upon his retirement to The Palms in Mount Pleasant, he joined Christ Our King Parish.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Fosberry (Marty) and Lori Rowland (Andy) of Mount Pleasant, SC; son, Mike (Myrtis) of Jacksonville, FL and Mark (Alicia) of Charleston, SC. He was the loving grandfather (Poppa) to 15 grandchildren: Martin, Mikell, Reed and Lawton Fosberry; Anthony, Julia and Paul Rowland; Jordan, Erin, Emily and Drew Mikell; Patrick, Thomas, Christopher and John Mikell. He is also survived by sister, Ann M. Hayth and sister-in-law, Ann M. Duc as well as several nieces and nephews.
