Maynard H. Parmenter, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011. He was born in 1924 in Weeks Mills, Maine, and was the son of Stanley and Grace Parmenter.Maynard joined the Marine Corps in 1941. He was a member of the 4th Marine Division, stationed on the islands of Roi Namur and Saipain, and Tinian, Mariana. He was wounded on Saipain and Tinian and was awarded two purple hearts. He was discharged in 1945 with honorable and satisfactory service. He returned to Maine and lived there for seven years. He married Irene L. Rodeschin. They had two sons: David J. Parmenter, and Brian Stanley Parmenter, both of whom preceded him in death. Maynard and Irene moved to Charleston in 1953, where he was owner of Maynards Supply, dealing in hydraulics. Maynard loved playing cards, telling jokes, traveling in the motor home with Irene, feeding the birds, photographing Charleston, and he especially loved his dog Susie.Maynard used to say, "Once a Marine, always a Marine." He was a 35-year member of American Legion Post 147 and VFW Post 445, both on James Island. He traveled to the Marine Corps Memorial in Virginia.He is survived by Irene, his beloved wife of 65 years; 2 brothers, Mervyn and wife Madeline Parmenter, Roydon Parmenter; his wife's siblings, whom he counted as his own: Frieda and Ronnie Bourne, Billy and Barbara Rodeschin, Henry and Beverly Rodeschin, Katherine "Kiki" and Frank Miller, and many nieces and nephews.The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Road, Charleston, SC. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, 3800 Fettler Park Drive, Suite 104, Dumfries, VA 22025.Arrangements by JAMES A.
