Maryann Taylor Loeffler, 78, of Seabrook Island, South Carolina passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017. Maryann was born on January 24, 1939 in Baytown, Texas to Mary Barnes and Wayne Taylor. She graduated in 1956 from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown where she participated in the Lee Band & Choir and the Lee Brigadier Drum & Bugle Corp. Maryann graduated from Lee College in Baytown in 1958 and later continued her studies at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, where she received a B.A. in English Literature in 1983. Maryann met her future husband, Christian E. Loeffler while they were both working in Abidan, Iran. They were wed in Hamburg, Germany, and later lived in Georgia, Texas and New Jersey while raising three children, before moving to Seabrook Island in 1994. Maryann is remembered for her keen intelligence, gentleness and kindness to others. A life-long love of books, reading, country music and animals were among her many interests. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Purtell Loeffler; son, Christian M. Loeffler, daughter in-law Kooheli Chatterji, son in-law Steve Avary and grandchildren Ellen, Brian and Robin Purtell and Ruby Loeffler. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, her brother Lee Taylor and daughter Michelle Avary. There will not be a formal service scheduled at this time. A Memorial with a scattering of ashes at sea will follow at a later date.
