Obituary

Mary Jane Welch passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 90.

Mary lived a life defined by service, compassion, and dedication to others. She was deeply involved with Civitan International, where she devoted many years of leadership and volunteer work. Throughout her distinguished service, she served as Club President, Secretary, District Lieutenant Governor, and District Governor. In recognition of her outstanding commitment and leadership, Mary received the prestigious Otis Jeffcoat Award and John Doudoukian Award.

Mary's passion for helping others extended to her work with Special Olympics. She faithfully served as Housing Chairperson for the state games for ten years, helping create memorable experiences and opportunities for countless athletes, families, and volunteers.

Known for her generous spirit, unwavering work ethic, and caring heart, Mary touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She believed in giving back to her community and dedicated much of her life to making a difference in the lives of others.

Mary is survived by her children, Robert Welch of Bethel, Edward Welch (Cindy) of Phoenix, Kenneth Welch (Ginger) of Angola, and Kathleen Welch of Charleston. She was preceded in death by her son and longtime companion, Stephen Welch. Mary is also survived by six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends, fellow volunteers, and all whose lives she enriched through her kindness and service.
