Mary Emily Walker, 93, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 1, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. The relatives and friends of Ms. Mary Emily Walker are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday evening, May 4, 2015 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. Mary was born in Charleston on February 12, 1922, a daughter of the late James L. and Catherine "Katie" Leonard Walker. She was the sixth of eleven children. She graduated from Memminger High School and retired after 30 years of government service with the United States Army Corp of engineers and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command. Mary was an accomplished seamstress and baker, and was known to always bring sweet treats when visiting with her family. She took great pleasure in decorating and spending time at her vacation home on Folly Beach. Mary is survived by her brothers, Henry M. Walker, James E. Walker and T. Russell Walker (Pat), and her sister Helen "Betty" O'Connor. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Walker, Bernard Walker, Lawrence Walker and her sisters, Marguerite Way, Dorothy Walker and Gloria Moorhead.
