Mary Murray Bennett Drury, 93, lifelong resident of Charleston, South Carolina died April 17, 2018. She was the daughter of John Rutherfoord Bennett of Charleston and Sallie Rutherfoord Miller of Richmond and the widow of Andrew Simonds Drury, also of Charleston.
Mrs. Drury attended Miss Sallie Carew’s kindergarten, Ashley Hall and the College of Charleston. She had an enduring interest in antiques, interior design and the preservation of Charleston’s buildings. She worked with President Theodore Stern on the expansion of the College of Charleston campus in selecting historic buildings and coordinating their interior design. Mrs. Drury has been a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America since 1948.
Surviving are a daughter, Sallie Bennett Drury Iselin and son-in-law, Frederick Downes Iselin; a son, Andrew Simonds Drury, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Paula Wylie Drury; one granddaughter, Tinsley Simonds Iselin Hadley; three grandsons, Charles Oliver Iselin, Andrew Simonds Drury III and Graham Reeves Drury; and five great grandchildren.
Private interment will be held at St. Philips Church.
