Mary Battle Means Hutson, 89, widow of William Elliott Hutson, died peacefully at her home, on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The relatives and friends of Mary M. Hutson are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Graveside, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 4:00 and 6:00 PM, this Wednesday afternoon at the residence, 39 King Street. B was born July 25, 1927, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of Mary Battle Parsons Means and William Martin Means. She graduated from St. Catherine's School and attended the College of Charleston. For 35 years she owned and operated, with Dorothy Small, the Porgy and Bess Dress Shop on Church Street. B was a member of St. Michael's Church and the flower guild for many years. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of South Carolina, the South Carolina Historical Society, The Ladies Benevolent Society, the Ivy Garden Club and the Board of the Confederate Home. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Battle Hutson 'Bebe' Sikkema, and her husband, Kenneth; her grandchildren: Elliott Hutson Sikkema, Caroline Means Sikkema and Allen Joseph Sikkema; her sister, Harriott Pinckney Means Johnson and many nieces and nephews.
