Mary Elizabeth McCormack Haynes, widow of Edward L. Haynes, Sr., passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the age of 97. The relatives and friends of Mary Elizabeth McCormack Haynes are invited to attend her Funeral Service 1:00 PM Friday, July 1, 2022 from the chapel of the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The service will be live-streamed. Refreshments will be served at Mrs. Haynes' home following the service. Burial will be private.
Mary was born November 19, 1924. She was devoted to her family and her church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she was a founding member. She served as a member of the Piecemakers for many years. She was a strong supporter of the Friends of the Library and was also very involved in the early development of West Ashley through the Highway 61 Commission and the St. Andrews Council of Civic Clubs.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Edward L. Haynes, Sr., her parents, Patrick and Ellen McCormack, her siblings, Beatrice (Sister Sheila), Julia Ann McCormack, Lorraine McCormack, Patricia Deegan, Paul McCormack, Sr., her grandson, Edward Allen Botto, and son-in-law, Thomas Flaherty.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Moore, her sister-in-law, Dr. Bobbie Jean McCormack, her brother and sister-in-law Charles and Carol Haynes, her children, Lorraine Flaherty, Judy Haynes-Pyler (Richard), Helen (Dee) Mullison (Craig), and Edward L. (Dan) Haynes, Jr. (Wanda), six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Mary was beloved by all and will be greatly missed.
