Mary Louise "Lou" Kidder Gadsden of Mt. Pleasant, SC, the widow of C. Deas Gadsden, Jr., entered into eternal rest on the morning of August 19, 2011. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Monday, August 22, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Charleston. The funeral and burial will be private. Lou was born on May 23, 1932 in Savannah, GA, daughter of the late James H and Helen B. Evans Kidder. She graduated from Beaufort High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She was employed by the SC National Bank as a secretary and worked at the Historic Charleston Foundation. For the past 16 years, she helped her daughter Ann run Consigning Women. She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church; Delta Delta Delta Sorority; S.P.C.A.; the Ivy Garden Club and a former member of the Jr. League of Charleston. She was known as "Miss Plenty" for her love of cooking and entertaining for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was constantly rescuing stray animals from dogs, raccoons, squirrels and even an occasional pelican. She is survived by her daughter, Ann G Shimer and husband Ed of Mt. Pleasant and her son, J. Christopher Gadsden and wife Stella of Mt. Pleasant. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Charleston Animal Society 2455 Remount Rd. North Charleston, SC 29406. Arrangments are by JAMES A.
