Mary Ellen Budds

April 8, 1927 — December 10, 2021

Mary Ellen “Mingie” Tavel Budds, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the age of 94. She was the daughter of the late Robert LePage Tavel and Sarah Bailey Tavel. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, William “Billy” Baker Budds, her brother Edward Marion Tavel (Faye), and sisters Donella Tavel Inabinett (Louie) and Bobbie I'Oan Tavel.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Christ Church Cemetery, Highway 174, Adams Run, SC.

Mingie was a graduate from St. Paul’s High School and St. Francis Xavier Infirmary School of Nursing; where she completed her training, alongside her sister, in the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps. Mingie’s nursing career spanned over 48 years, touching many lives throughout Charleston. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church for over fifty years, and devoted her life to church, family, friends, and numerous community organizations.

Mingie adored her nieces and nephews. She is survived by nephews: Louie Thomas Inabinett, Donald McLeod Inabinett, Dr. Edward Marion Tavel (Madeline), Alan Stephens Tavel (Beth); nieces Sherry Ellen Inabinett Tripp (Roger), Patricia LePage Inabinett Buchanan (Perry); grand-nephews Matthew Clifford Parker (Shana), Edward Marion Tavel, III, Marshall Tavel, Alan Stephens Tavel, Jr. and Andrew Tavel; grand-nieces Victoria Tavel Parker, Sarah Anne LePage Parker, and Bailey LePage Smart (Caden); great-grand-nephews and niece Jack, Penelope and Nathaniel Parker; Rex Rodgers and loving family.

Memorials may be made to her church John Wesley United Methodist, or St. Judes Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
