Mrs. Mary A. Coffey, 79, widow of Malcolm J. Coffey, Jr., went to heaven Friday, July 20, 2018, at her home. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Mary A. Coffey are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. The family will receive friends between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, with a 7:30 Rosary service, Tuesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway.
Mary was born in Charleston on September 23, 1938, to the late Howard J. and Harriet Louise Adams. She was a Class of ‘56 graduate of Bishop England High School and a ‘59 graduate of St. Francis Nursing School. Mary was a nurse at Charleston County Hospital and at St. Francis Hospital after obtaining her license. She was loved by all who knew her. Mary was especially proud of her children and grandchildren, and she was very happy to talk about them with anyone who asked. She loved to shop and collected all things pineapple and lately, peacocks were added to her collection.
Mary is survived by her children: Kevin J. Coffey, Sr. (Susan), Margaret “Sissy” Day (George), and Malcolm J. “Jody” Coffey, III (Amy); 9 grandchildren: Chip, Blayze, Breiyan (Mark), Nick (Elizabeth), Chandler, Brett, Kyle, K.C., and Laci; 3 great-grandchildren: Rylee, Blake, and Sofia; 1 sister; Sr. Canice Adams. She was predeceased by her sisters Louise Adams Drolet and Little Miss Margaret Adams. In addition, she had numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
