Mary Cargile Bevis, widow of the late Bernard Robert Bevis, Sr. of Charleston, SC, passed into eternal life Sunday, September 22, 2024.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Friday, September 27, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Thursday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM.
Mary was born July 25, 1940, in Macon, GA. She was the daughter of Cecil Bostick Cargile of Macon, GA and Sarah Belle Smith of Macon, GA. Mary moved to Charleston as a baby and graduated salutatorian at Chicora High School. She received a BSN in Nursing and retired from Roper St. Francis Hospital after a nearly 50-year nursing career. Mary was married for 49 years and was a loving wife, mother and sister to all her family. As a member of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 60 years, she served weekly for 30 years as an Adoration guardian and had a daily devotion to the rosary. Mary was a generous person and worked tirelessly to help others in need. She enjoyed seeing the mountains, especially in the fall, and her favorite trip was to the Holy Land.
Mary is survived by her son, Robert Bevis, Jr. of Charleston; daughter, Denise B. D’Angelo of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren: Mark Lee, Jr., Michael Lee, Dillon Wagers, Robert Bevis III, Parks Bevis, Catherine D’Angelo and David D’Angelo; sister, Phyllis Osburn and brothers, Kirk Cargile, Donald Cargile, Dwight Cargile, Anthony Cargile and Craig Cargile. She has numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Bevis Lee of Cornelius, NC as well as her sisters, Angela Kennedy and Nancy Newman.
