Mr. Mark Jay Spring, 61, lovingly known as “Biner”, entered into eternal rest Friday morning, December 18, 2021, at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Mark was born in Charleston, SC. on May 29, 1960, a son of the late William and Yvonne O'Neal Spring. He grew up on James Island and attended Fort Johnson High School.
From an early age, Mark was widely recognized as one of the greatest athletes in Charleston. Coached by his father, William “Billy the Kid” Spring, Mark received countless awards and recognition for his standout performance in Baseball, Basketball and Football. At an annual YMCA Banquet, Bobby Richardson, a nine-time-world series star, recognized Mark as “a standout youth and the most outstanding player in all three sports”.
Mark worked for Pearlstine Distributors for a number of years before moving to Greenville, SC shortly after his beloved mother, Yvonne Spring, passed away in 2002.
He was an outstanding Uncle and he immensely enjoyed spending time with his nephews, taking them to countless ball games. He loved the Carolina Gamecocks and Pittsburgh Steelers. He passed his infectious love of sports on to his adoring family.
Mark’s family is forever grateful for the memories they made together. He will always be cherished as the fun-loving person that he was. His sweet and comedic personality can never be matched, but will be deeply missed.
Mark is survived by his brother, Marty Spring; his sister, Tara Hollingsworth and his three nephews, Max and Ryan Schalaudek and Harris Spring.
The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Thursday evening December 23, 2021, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Online condolences may be offered at www.CharlestonFunerals.com
