Marilyn C. Shokes, 84, of Charleston, passed away on Monday April 20, 2015. The relatives and friends of Marilyn C. Shokes are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:30 PM, Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church. The burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Marilyn was born November 27, 1930 in Andrews, SC, a daughter of Cecil M. and Viola Miller Camlin. She retired as a Vice President and the Corporate Secretary from the former First Federal Savings & Loan Association of Charleston where she spent more than 40 years of her life. At retirement, FF honored her by naming an art scholarship in her name. Marilyn worked with the YWCA who honored her with the first TWIN award. She was a charter member of the Pilot Club of Greater Charleston. Marilyn was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was active in the choir and started the senior travel club. She is survived by one daughter, Karen C. Shokes of Charleston and 2 sons, Glenn Q. Shokes(Lydia) of Walterboro, SC and Mark A. Shokes (Rolandis) of Greer, SC, and eight grandchildren, Kevin Shokes, Brent Shokes (Shelly), Thomas Shokes, and Hunter Hanson(Leyna) of Charleston, Emily Shokes of Hartsville, Alan Shokes(Mandy) and Seth Shokes of Greer, SC, and Grant Shokes of Charlotte, NC, and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Harold Shokes(Sandra) of Florence and her sister, Julia Sellers (Phil) of Hendersonville, NC and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn was predeceased by her brother, Cecil M. Camlin, Jr. of Texas, and 2 sisters, Vivian Meggs and Sybil Schubert, both of Florence.
