Margaret B. Levander Porter

Margaret B. Levander-Porter, 97, passed away November 6, 2014. The relatives and friends of Margaret B. Levander-Porter are invited to attend her Memorial Service 11:00 AM Monday, November 10, 2014 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1540 Camp Road, James Island. Interment will take place at a later date at Beaufort National Cemetery. A native of Belle Plaine, Minnesota, Margaret and her first husband, Viekko Levander, moved to Charleston in the mid 1960's, where he served in the Naval Investigative Office. After his death, she married William W. Porter. They called Charleston their home for the past 24 years. Margaret was among a small group of women who founded the Charleston Woman's Club. She was also an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church, and remained active until she was no longer able to attend. In addition to her husband, William W. Porter, Margaret is survived by her 2 sons, Alan R. Levander and wife Caroline, and William B. Levander, and 1 granddaughter, Candee Levander. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
