A golden heart stopped on September 25, 2017. Gertrude Maree Melfi Kann, 92, of Wadmalaw Island, SC, entered into eternal rest on Monday. The relatives and friends of Gertrude Maree Melfi Kann are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM Friday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Born in Charleston, SC, on June 17, 1925, Maree was the daughter of the late Walter J. Melfi, Sr. and Gertrude Cooper Melfi. Maree graduated from Bishop England High School in 1942. Maree worked to support her family and rose to the level of Controller with Home Federal Savings in Charleston retiring after more than 36 years. She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. Maree is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Oswell Kann of nearly 70 years; her son, Bobby Kann of Spring, TX; daughter, Karen Lidgett (David) of Wichita, KS; son, Randy Kann (Aleene) of Summerville, SC; daughter, Donna Kann of Johns Island, SC; daughter, Teri Payne (Kevin) of Goose Creek, SC; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dolores DeLuca of Bridgeport, CT, Mae Frances Holmes of Folly Beach, SC and Rosemary Cantey (Jack) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Maree was preceded in death by her brother, Walter J. Melfi, Jr. Maree was an amazing woman, loving wife and wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. There was nothing she loved more than her family. She brought a smile to the faces of everyone around her. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the dedicated staff at We Care and Amedisys Hospice for the love, kindness and respect extended to Maree.
