Marcus Dean Matthews

May 28, 1957 — January 6, 2019

Marcus Dean Matthews, age 61, originally from Charleston, SC, went to be with Jesus on Sunday night, January 6, 2019. He chose to die at home in Greenwood, SC under the care of his wife, Robin-Sue.

The relatives and friends of Marcus Dean Matthews are invited to attend his Funeral Service 2:00 PM Saturday, January 12, 2019, from the chapel of James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens on Highway 61. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Joan Matthews, and by his brother, Tom Matthews. Others are left to cherish his memory: He is survived by his wife, Robin-Sue Knowles Matthews; his beloved daughter, Shari Matthews and her mother Kim; 3 grandsons, Dylan, Mason, and Sammy; He will be fondly remembered by his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Barbara Smith (Bo), Mary All (Jimmy), Ron Matthews, and Mike Matthews (Melanie). He will also be greatly missed by his 5 step-children: Lisa, Cody, Travis, Amanda, and Kaylee.

Mark loved to hunt and said that he felt closest to God while enjoying nature. He was always free spirited, and fun loving, which sometimes got him into trouble.

His life began to turn around as a graduate of Faith Home Christian Rehabilitation, Greenwood, SC. After a bit of struggle, he became a success story of "Amazing Grace". He started a business, "Mark's Mobile Auto and Small Engine Repair." One of his customers became his assistant and dearest friend; then, in 2015, she became his wife, Robin-Sue Knowles Matthews.

Mark was a quiet man whose ministry was in service to others. He provided mechanical & handyman help, and rides to doctor visits and stores. In addition, he sometimes left anonymous gifts on the doorsteps of those in need, such as diapers for a single mom, or groceries for a struggling grandmother. It saddened him when his health no longer allowed him to do such things.

Mark was a member of New Covenant Church on Woodlawn Rd. in Greenwood. He enjoyed the preaching of pastor David Harold in person, or online @ www.ncgreenwood.org. But, he especially liked the Wednesday night," small community group life application meetings."

Our Hearts are heavy, but our Spirits rejoice, because in the end, All was Well with his Soul.
