M. Dreher Gaskin, Jr.

June 19, 1931 — April 11, 2011

Entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 11, 2011 Marion Dreher Gaskin, Jr., husband of Helen Mandich Gaskin. Dreher was born in Orangeburg, SC on Friday, June 19, 1931, a son of Marion Dreher Gaskin, Sr. and Maude Sharpe Gaskin . He was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and Clemson University Class of 1954. He was a retired Financial Manager with Commercial Credit Corp. for over 35 years. You can read a list of Dreher's sports achievements with a quick internet search. Being a man of few words you would have to read about them because Dreher would rarely tell you about them himself. He was not a boastful man unless it was about his family. Everyone knows what a huge Clemson football player/fan he was. His blood ran orange. He also was a true southern gentleman. A man who deeply loved his family. He was smart, funny, fair and honest. An unconventual musician known for whistling entire tunes while drumming his fingers on any nearby table or wall. He will be remembered as a gentle giant, but most of all he will be remembered as a husband, a father, a grandfather, and friend. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of 8 east and west MUSC, NHC staff, St Francis ICU nurses and doctors, doctors and nurses at Kindred hospital. Among his many achievements: Graduated Clemson University 1954, Clemson Football 1950-1953 Southern Conference Most Outstanding Athlete 1953, High School Football Official 30 years Palmetto Touchdown Club Official of the Year 1976, High School Football Official Hall of Fame 1999 Clemson Football Hall of Fame 1994, South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame 2004, Gold Medal Winner Master's Track & Field, U.S. Army 3 years in service with Honorable Discharge 1952.
