Lynda B. McKay Lynda McDowell Burbage McKay, 63, of James Island, the wife of Robert Clement McKay, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at a local hospital. She was born in Charleston, the daughter of Joel Leroy Burbage and Virginia Irene Singletary Burbage, on Tuesday, August 27, 1946. Lynda was a graduate of James Island High School and attended St. Francis Xavier School of Nursing. She was a retired Teacher's Aide at Mason Preparatory School. Lynda was an active member and leader at Harbor View Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. During her time at the church she served as an Elder, Clerk of Session, Youth Advisor, Wedding Coordinator as well as on numerous committees and teams. Lynda was also a frequent volunteer at the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery, once serving as Moderator of the Presbytery and as a Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA. She was a member of the Laureate Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she held every office and helped plan and organize many social functions as well as community service projects. Lynda also has served on the Sorority's Greater Charleston City Council. She had many hobbies including, bridge, spades, reading, crossword puzzles and especially enjoyed her frequent outings and lunch dates with her many friends. Most of all she was a loving, caring friend, wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all. Lynda is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert C. McKay, Jr. of James Island; a daughter, Robin McKay Alexander and her husband Brian of Charleston; son-in-law, Brandon Hamby of James Island and three grandchildren, Brian Alexander, Jr., Riley Alexander and Carson Hamby. She was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia "Ginnie" McKay Hamby. The relatives and friends of Mr. And Mrs. Robert C. McKay, Jr. are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Harbor View Presbyterian Church with the Committal Service in Holy Cross Cemetery, both on James Island. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
