You are also invited to write your 'I love Lucy' story for her scrapbook.
Lucy was born November 17, 1931, in Charleston, SC, a daughter of George Joseph and Stella Sirisky Buero. She attended James Simmons and Bennett Elementary Schools. She went on to Bishop England High School where she was a cheerleader and class secretary and treasurer. Later, she graduated from Memminger High School. During her high school years, Lucy was popular with both boys and girls. Lucy made her home, an after school teen hang-out where they played records and danced the shag.
Later in life and after raising her 4 children, Lucy divorced her first husband Connie Holmes. Her second marriage was to Chief Rolland G. Amundson, USN (Ret.) from Minnesota. Lucy and Rolland met in Charleston, fell in love, married and moved to Montana, bought a mountain and built a cabin on it. To her Charleston family's surprise, Lucy loved the rough life in Montana and Montana loved her right back. She became a point of their community and in time they referred to her as 'Miss Lucy'. With her wit and personality, she was always able to make friends easily. She took part in and often created activities in her little town of White Hall. She bravely took on the job of producing and directing their wild west extravaganza to celebrate the anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It was a big success.
During her 25 years in Montana, Lucy always found time to return to the Land of the Magnolias and get her Charleston fix. In later years, when she became ill, her children brought her back to Charleston to take care of her and let her life end, where it began.
Lucy started her career in the 1960's working in the St. Francis Hospital's operating room and worked as a Beautician at Sandra Dee's Beauty Parlor. She campaigned for John Fitzgerald Kennedy's presidential election for which she received an authentic signed letter of appreciation. Lucy was a vital, incremental force in securing Surfer's Rights on Folly Beach and was an original co- founder of People Against Rape. She wrote, produced and directed The Lewis and Clark Expedition, an outdoor Theatrical Performance, commemorating Montana's Bicentennial. She was also a writer for The Montana Standard, The Whitehall Ledger and a member of the Southern Writers Association where her Short Story entry earned her Top Honors. Lucy was a graduate of the Casanova Writers College in New York. She owned a Pig, Priscilla, who she wrote an episode about which was featured in an episode of Golden Girls. She also founded Momma's Money Restaurant on King Street and Evangeline Restaurant on Archdale, in Charleston.
From her home stations of Charleston and Montana, Lucy has other mini-lives in Los Angeles, New York, Houston and New Orleans. She was an avid reader and profile writer. She was an adventurer and was courageous and outrageous. Lucy was smart, funny and had talent for doing and saying anything she pleased and getting away with it. People gravitated to her; she enriched their lives and they hers. Lucy's life was a life well lived. Lucy championed each of her children and was there through every one of life's challenges they faced, not matter what it took to do so! She is a part of a large, close-knit famiiy.
Lucy is survived by her three devoted children: Chris, Michael and George; her grandchildren, Jennifer G. Thomas, Christopher B. Thomas and Kiefer Montana Thomas, Coal C Golemis, Bernadette M. Golemis; great-grandchildren: Antoinette Thomas, Lucian Thomas, Merrick Thomas and Bailee Kittle, Rocky C. Golemis; five siblings: Marilyn B. Tezza, Jackqueline B.
