Lt. Col. John Bunyan Amaker, Ii Usa (Ret)

Lt.Col John B. (J. B.) Amaker II U. S. Army retired died March 8, 2012. Col. Amaker was the son of the late State detective John B. Amaker Sr. and Clara Hazel Amaker. Col. Amaker a loving husband, caring father and grandfather was born and grew up in Columbia, S. C. He lived in Charleston, S. C. for the parst 48 years. During his military service he served in World War II and Korea. This war time service covered six campaigns as an Infantry officer. Among his military awards were the combat Infantry badge, Silver Star, Bronze star with a V, Purple Heart, and the Army Commendation medal. During his military service, he further performed various command and staff duties in the Z. I. South America, Europe, Asia, and the middle East. Following his military Service, Col. Amaker was employed at the Citadel and later retired from there. He is survived by his wife Nancy M. Amaker, a daughter Jean A. Rion and husband Jackie Rion, sons, John B. Amaker III and wife Betty Amaker and Matthew Amaker; Grandchildren, James Bryen Amaker, Johnathon Bradley Amaker and Caroline Whitney Rion. Also surviving are five great grandchildren. He was 91 years of age. Memorials can be made to Veterans Victory House, Walterboro, S. C. All services will be private. His Guestbook may be signed at www.jamesamcalister.com.
