Louis Vincent Melendez

Louis Vincent Melendez, 85, of Charleston, SC, passed away on July 3, 2024, after a long struggle with COPD and dementia.

Louis was born in Charleston on January 5, 1939, a son of Luis and Margaret Capitan Melendez. He graduated from Bishop England High School in 1958 and retired from the Charleston Navel Shipyard in 1995.

Louis and Rosemary Willis Melendez were married in 1961. They have three children, Vincent, Mark and Michelle. Louis and Rosemary made many memories going on cruises and traveling. He enjoyed playing golf at Shadowmoss Golf Club.

Louis was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Michael and sister, Bertilda M. Menard.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his children, Vincent Melendez (Grace), Mark Melendez (Rosalind) and Michelle Howington; his grandchildren, Ginger Cardwell (Tony), Morgan Melendez (Natalia) and Dominick Howington; his great-grandsons, Myles and Bennett; his brother, Robert Melendez; his sister-in-law, Kaye Hull and son-in-law, Clinton Howington.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Funeral Service time and location has changed. Mr. Louis V. Melendez Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Charleston Rifle Club, 2221 Heriot Street, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Charleston Rifle Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Roper Hospice, 8536 Palmetto Commerce Parkway Suite 207B, Ladson SC 29456.
