Louis Joseph Hoppmann, Jr.

October 3, 1943 — June 10, 2025

Louis J. Hoppmann, Jr., 81, of James Island, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Funeral Services and burial will be Private.

Louis was born in Charleston, SC on October 3, 1943, to the late Mary Catherine Craig Hoppmann and Louis J. Hoppmann, Sr. He graduated from Bishop England High School in 1962. Louis joined the Army Reserves and worked for BellSouth. He retired after 43 years of faithful service with the company.

Louis enjoyed boating with family in his younger years. He especially loved his sports cars. Over the years he has owned three corvettes, a Chevy II and a Camaro. His last love was a 2019 "California Special" Mustang, which we still have. He loved to drive it early Sunday morning on the James Island Connector so he could drive fast. Louis never intentionally drove it in the rain. Later in life he loved collecting. He bought and repaired antique clocks. We now have, at last count, about 120. He loved them all.

Louis Is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Amerson Hoppmann; his three children: daughter, Shannon Jackson (Brett) and grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah; daughter, Heather Marlowe (Brian) and grandson, Harrison; and son, Louis Joseph Hoppmann III; his sisters, Linda Wilkens, Karen Harris; his brother, Timothy Hoppmann and many loving nieces and nephews.
