Louis Frederick Flade, 86, of Walterboro, passed away Monday April 11, 2016, surrounded by his family at the Veterans' Victory House.The relatives and friends of Louis F. Flade are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 15, 2016, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. His guestbook may be signed online at CharlestonFunerals.com.Louis was born June 17, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late George and Florence Flade. After serving two years in the Navy, Mr. Flade went on to a 40-year career as River Pilot for McAlister Brothers. Upon his retirement, he moved to St. Mary's, WV, where he served as mayor for eight years, as Captain on the West Virginia Belle for several years, and served on many committees at his church, Grace Episcopal. Mr. Flade will be remembered as a loving family man, married to his wife Susan for 57 years until her death in 2011. He is survived by his children: Louis Flade, Jr., Kenneth Flade and wife Maryjo, Susan Shubert and husband Eugene, Nancy Parsons and husband Roger, and Michelle Van Noy and husband Keith; 15 Grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren, and 2 Great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Flade was preceded in death by his brothers George and Russell Flade, his sisters Loraine Strippo and Emily Fritts, and infant grandsons Andrew and Michael Todd.
