Entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 Lou Ellen Culbreth Jackson, widow of Lycurgus Jackson, Jr. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Lou Ellen Jackson are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway. The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Live Oak Memorial Gardens Lou was born on June 26, 1925 in Abbeyville, S.C., a daughter of the late Richard Samuel and Ludie Williamson Culbreth. The Jackson family was very traditional for that time. Buck (Lycurgus) and Lou married in 1948 and had two children, Johnny and Susan. Buck went to work everyday, brought home the paycheck and handed it to Lou. She was in charge of the home, the behind the scenes commander in chief, Lou had been raised during the depression when money was limited. She became a nurse by signing on to be a U.S. Nurse Cadet. The government would pay for the nursing education for the promise to serve the country as a nurse if there was a war. After completing her degree at Anderson Hospital she worked at the V.A. Hospital and later at St. Francis. Lou had been a member of the Eastern Star and was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church as well as a member of the Exxon Annuitant Club. Lou had the ability to cook a fine southern meal one day and cut a tree down and drag it to the trash pile the next day. She is survived by two children, John R. Jackson and his wife, Deborah, of Houston, TX, Susan J. Chewning and her husband, Ted, of Round O, S.C., four grandchildren, Somelea Jackson, Samuel Jackson, Rebecca Chewning and Teddy Chewning. She is also survived by her sister Gladys Ferguson and her brother Richard Culbreth. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Elaine Jackson and a half sister, Gertrude Irwin.
