Leslie "Berle" William Pye, 65, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 30, 2011. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie "Berle" Pye, are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, Wednesday July 6, 2011, at the Cathedral of St. John The Baptist, 120 Broad St . The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. Berle was born on February 1, 1946, a son of Leona Bartowski Pye and the late Thomas Sinclair Pye. Billy "Berle" was a very gifted athlete that played all sports but excelled in basketball. He was the top ten scorer in many games and was instrumental in winning the only state championship for Bishop England High School in 1963. Berle is survived by his wife, Greta; son Jason Pye; mother Leona; daughter in law Heather Randall; grandson Nicholas; one step grandson, Hunter McGrew ; his brothers, Harold C. Pye, Charles A. Pye, James A. Pye and David E. Pye. He is also survived by his daughter from a previous marriage, April Brooks, and her children Manny and Kal Brooks. Berle was preceded in death by his brother John T. Pye. Memorial donations may be made in Berle's memory to a charity of ones choice.
