Leslie Ravenel McEwen, age 69, died on August 12, 2015 from terminal cancer. Born October 22, 1945 in Charleston, SC, to William Durwood McEwen and Mary Louise McEwen. He attended St. Andrews High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the Baptist College in 1969. He is a lifetime resident of West Ashley and worked for over 35 years as a local restaurateur. Some of the most popular restaurants and bars were Sassy Fats, Swingles, The Mirage, Chukker's, Polo's and lastly Chancy's. Les was a member of the Charleston Restaurant Association. He also was VP of the Ashley Bridge District and a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. He also was past President of Windermere Neighborhood Association. In his college days he was captain of the Charleston Southern golf team and President of his fraternity NKA. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Kaye McEwen. His daughters, Brandi McEwen Osteen and Whitney McEwen Ingram. Step-daughters, Tammy Williams Flanigan, and Kelly Elizabeth Williams all of Charleston, SC. Grandchildren include Riley Brown, River Flanigan, Walker Osteen, Haiden Schneider, Cora Flanigan, Ansley Ingram and Jemma Kimball. In his free time he loved fishing, bird hunting, boating, playing golf and shag dancing. He also loved supporting the South Carolina Gamecocks. Honorary pallbearers include: Bucky Morris, Kelly Burris, Bill Garbini, Skipper Griffin, Eddie Keating, Mike Carroll, Buddy Petit, Lowell Epstein, Earl Smalley, Banks Cribb and Larry Cribb. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie R. McEwen are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM.
