Keith Allan Tapscott

Keith Allan Tapscott, 78, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on April 11, 2024.

Keith's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM, Monday, June 24, 2024, at Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Road, Charleston. The Rite of Committal, with Military Honors, will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery.

Keith was born November 9, 1945, in Washington, DC. He was a son of Louise Osterholt and Herman W. Tapscott. Keith earned his Associates Degree from Palmer Business College in 1966, his Bachelors Degree from the Baptist College at Charleston in 1969 and his Masters Degree from The Citadel in 1978.  He worked for Charleston County Public School District for over 20 years. He created the Training Department as part of the James Island High School Athletic Program, where he coached and was an injury trainer. Keith coached JIHS tennis, where he started the school's tennis program and won the State Tennis Crown in 1976 and third in the state in 1977. He also coached JIHS soccer and created and developed the soccer program. The team went on to the second round in the Lower State play-offs in 1979 and were Conference Champs in 1983. Keith won Coach of the Year in 1983, 1988 and 1992.

Keith enlisted in the US Army in 1969 and served his country in the Republic of Viet Nam in 1970. He earned Base Soldier of the Month and was Honorably Discharged in 1971. Keith was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. He began the Key Club at JIHS and served as an Advisor from 1972 to 1993. This was a young men's division of the Kiwanis Club, where he also served as Governor and Lt. Governor of the Carolina District, selected from the JIHS club. Keith was also an Eagle Scout.

Keith is survived by his sister, Rita L. Hollings and her husband, Gevert; sister-in-law, Jan Tapscott Hopper; niece, Katie Cook and her busband, Dave; great-nephews, Gage and Peyton Cook; great-niece, Ella Cook, as well as many cousins from Kentucky, Indiana and Virginia.

Keith is preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Kennith W. Tapscott.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412, Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Road, Charleston, SC or to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
