Katina W. Lempesis passed away February 5, 2015 at the age of 93 following an unexpected illness. The relatives and friends of Ms. Katina W. Lempesis are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, Monday, February 9, 2015, at the Greek Orthodox Church of The Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston. The burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Sunday, February 8, 2015 between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, with the Trisagion at 7:00PM. Her Guestbook may be signed at www.JamesAMcAlister.com. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the youngest daughter of William Peter and Coula Clainos Lempesis, both born in Greece. Katina was predeceased by her three brothers, Peter, George and Louis of Charleston, her sister, Julia Campbell of Atlanta, GA and two nephews, Louie Lempesis of Greenville, SC and Costa Campbell of Atlanta, GA. Katina attended and graduated Memminger High School and attended Winthrop College. She worked at the Charleston Naval Base and then as manager of her brother's Royal Cleaners and Dryers. Thereafter, and for the rest of her career, she worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Charleston as Assistant Personnel Director serving under the late Roland Wooten. Active in the Letter Carriers Union and providing great support to any and all who requested her assistance, she remained a loyal and dedicated supporter of the Postal Service all her life and was recalled to work after retirement because of her commitment, valuable contributions and experience. Katina was a life-long and much loved member of the Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity parish in Charleston , Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Daughters of Penelope serving in all Chapter positions and was District Secretary. District 1 of the Daughters of Penelope honored her with a special celebration of her 70+ years of service. Katina's life, in addition to her successful career and church and business-related activities, was filled with the love for her large extended family and the people she loved and who loved her. She was a very special, loving and caring woman. Her primary pleasure in life during her retirement was spending time with her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is survived, and lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Mrs. J. Louis (Ann) Lempesis, her nieces and nephews, Nicolas C. Lempesis of Folly Beach and his daughters, Anna Jordan (Todd) and Sarah Lempesis of Columbia, Diana Lempesis Armenakis (Jim) of New York, her sons Remy and Dax and daughter Alex of New York, Karen Lempesis Upton of Gainesville, FL, sons Larry (Kathy) Green of Gainesville, FL, and Andy Green of Woodstock, GA, Terry Lempesis Williamson (Mike), her daughter Catherine Wamer (Adam) of Charleston, and son Christopher of New York, Sunday Lempesis Schaeffer (Donny),her son Chase of Charleston and daughter Kyra of Salem, VA, Basil Lempesis (Laurie) of Charleston and his daughter Dana of Charlotte, NC, Billy Lempesis (Bobbi Conner) his son Peter, son Cassidy Conner and daughter Livy Conner of Charleston, Tina Lempesis Okpych (Mike) of Henderson, NC and Demi (Amanda) Lempesis of Greenville,SC, Kula Campbell Moore of Athens, GA and her daughter Julia Maria of Greenwood,SC, Leon Campbell (Helen) of Spartanburg, Basil Campbell (Sky), his daughter Angela Campbell Joiner (Bob) and son Demetry of Athens, GA and many cousins, koumbari and friends.
