Katie Shrum Bennett

Katie Shrum Bennett, 99, of Charleston, the widow of Gordon W. Bennett, died Sunday, September 19, 2010. She was born in Lincolnton, NC a daughter of Sidney Johnston and Dora Elizabeth Jane Finger Shrum on Monday, August 21, 1911. Mrs. Bennett and her late husband were the owners of Perdita's Restaurant in Charleston. She was a active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church for many years. Surviving are her son, Michael G. Bennett;a daughter, Bonnie B. Campbell and her husband, Thomas; three grandchildren, Ashlee Sans, Angela Bennett and Natalie Walker; five great grandchildren, Isabelle, Anna, Marc, Daniel and Marley. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Katie S. Bennett are invited to attend her funeral service at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 23, 2010 at John Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Association for the Blind, Inc., 1071 Morrison Dr., Charleston, SC 29403.
