It is with profound sadness that the family of Kathryn Combs Morton announces she has lost her battle with kidney disease. She died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
Her Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM , Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Graveside, Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Ft. Johnson Rd. on James Island. The family will receive friends on Friday between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
Kathy was born on January 3, 1949, in Bossier, Louisiana, one of five children born to Elmer B. and Wilma E. Combs. Her father was a Senior Master Sergeant in the US Air Force so Kathy lived in many places growing up but it was when she lived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee that she met her husband to be, Ron Morton. Ron later entered the US Navy and while stationed in Charleston, he and Kathy were married on September 11, 1968.
Kathy and Ron had two daughters, Michelle Morton Salmorin and Kimberly Morton Ambrose. Kathy and Ron later became the proud grandparents of four wonderful grandchildren, Ashlynn, Grace, Elena and Adam. These grandchildren were Kathy's pride and joy. She spent countless hours helping raise her grandchildren, attending their softball games and soccer tournaments and was always involved in their educational activities. Kathy and Ron were affectionately known to each of their grandchildren as 'Nonny' and 'Poppy'.
During her adult life Kathy was an orthodontic assistant for Dr. Charles Youmans. She later became a ward clerk on the 8th floor of St Francis Xavier Hospital when it was located on Rutledge Avenue. Kathy ended her career as office manager for Dr. B.G. Quesenberry, a local psychologist.
The commitment shared between Kathy and Ron grew stronger over the years and the void left by Kathy's absence will be difficult for Ron and the entire family.
Kathy was predeceased by sister Pat Garrison and her husband, Jack.
She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Morton Salmorin and her husband, Kenny and Kimberly Morton Ambrose and her husband, Petie as well as her four wonderful grandchildren, Ashlynn Ambrose, Grace Ambrose, Elena Salmorin and Adam Salmorin. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Combs and his wife, Julie, her sisters, Carol Plust and her husband, Nick, and Phyllis Money.
