It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Mary Barrett Steelman, who left this world surrounded by love and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, April 27, 2026, at the graveside, Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston. The family will receive friends between 11:00 AM and 12:15 PM, Monday morning, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway.
Kathleen was a beloved mother, family member, and friend whose life was marked by strength, care, and devotion to those she loved. She carried herself with resilience through life's challenges and gave of herself in ways both seen and unseen.
She will be remembered for her love of home, her independent spirit, and the special place she held in the hearts of her family. Kathleen had a deep love for animals and found joy in caring for them. She also loved ballroom dancing, where her grace, joy, and vibrant spirit shined brightly. Above all, she cherished her family and friends, who meant the world to her.
Kathleen is survived by her loving daughter, Marcia Hunter; granddaughters, Haley Minish and Alexandria Hunter; grandson-in-law, Carlos Gutiérrez Rojas; son-in-law, Tyler Hunter; her beloved boyfriend, Brian Bateman; brother, Michael Barrett; niece, Lindsay Green; nephew, Patrick Barrett; and Kenny Steelman, Rhonda Steelman, Brittney Steelman, and Hannah Steelman, who remained cherished members of her extended family.
They, along with many extended family members and dear friends, will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.
A time of remembrance and service will be held with family and loved ones to honor her life.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we are grateful for the gift of Kathleen's life and the love she gave so freely. She will never be forgotten.
