Katherine Reynolds Manning

December 31, 1942 — April 12, 2023

Katherine Reynolds Manning, 80, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Born December 31, 1942 in Atlanta Georgia, Katherine spent the majority of her life as a resident of Charleston. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School, Class of '61, and Winthrop University. After college, she began her career in banking, working at C & S Bank, Nations Bank, and Bank of America. One of her work highlights included being selected to work in the Olympic Village on behalf of Nations Bank during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.

Her true calling, however, was as a wife, mother and grandmother. Katherine met her loving husband of 51 years, William (Bill) Manning, in high school. The two reconnected at a Knights of Columbus event in 1970 and began dating soon after. Katherine and Bill married on November 25, 1971. They shared a love of travel, faith and family. Katherine and Bill share two children: Sally Manning Wills (Andy) and Will Manning (Allison), as well as three wonderful grandchildren: Reyn Wills, Mia Wills, and Logan Manning.

Katherine will be remembered as a loving Aunt to her two nieces and eight nephews, their spouses and children, and as a faithful sister-in-law to MaryAnn and Larry Boudolf, Martin Fosberry, and Bill Robinson.

Katherine had many talents and interests. In addition to loving to travel with Bill to see family and the world, she was an artist who enjoyed creating scrapbooks, cards, cross-stitch samplers, and gardening. She was a talented photographer and  loved to capture her family’s memories.

Katherine spent her summers growing up on Sullivan’s Island, where she fell in love with all of the joys that the South Carolina coast has to offer. She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the beach. Every time she sat in her chair at the water’s edge, she would sigh and say, “The beach restores my soul”. She taught her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews the joy of crabbing and building drip-drip sand castles through the decades.

Katherine was fun-loving and competitive and she loved playing games of any kind. She regularly looked forward to playing bridge, bingo, and hearts with her friends. Family Yahtzee games will never be the same without her. In addition, she was privileged to call many people her friends. She looked forward to making cards weekly and she loved her monthly get-togethers with her BE Girls. Their friendships throughout the years were a joy and a treasure.

Katherine was also a voracious reader, a passion that she shared with Bill and her two children. She loved visiting the library weekly and would read almost anything that she could find. Her Kindle was among her favorite possessions. Her favorite color and flavor was “yellow,” which was a perfect reflection of her personality.
