Katherine Carabatsos Gianoukos, 88, of Charleston SC, widow of Anthony James Gianoukos, Sr., died Monday, January 14, 2013. The relatives and friends of Katherine Gianoukos are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. this Wednesday evening between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. The Trisagion Service will begin at 6:00 PM. Katherine was born May 8, 1924, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Andrew and Virginia Carabatsos. She and her family moved to South Carolina in the 1940's. Katherine graduated from Memminger High School and Rice Business College. During World War II she worked at the Charleston Naval Base in the IBM section supporting war efforts. She was a bookkeeper and made many friends throughout her work career in local Charleston businesses; Berlins, WTMA and WCSC to name a few. Her most beloved job was sharing her accounting skills in the business started by her three sons, ATS Logistics. "Mr. and Mrs. G" were seen daily and contributed to the "family" atmosphere of the business. Katherine was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church her entire life and was very active in church activities. She was past president and first District Governor for the Daughters of Penelope from Charleston. She served as one of the advisors for the youth group, GOYA, throughout the teenage years of all her children. First and foremost she was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Draffin-Ingram (Neal) and sons, James Anthony Gianoukos (Laura), Andrew Anthony Gianoukos (Jennifer), and Anthony James Gianoukos,(Stephanie), 8 grandchildren Scott Draffin (Nicole), Katherine Draffin, Jason Gianoukos (Lindsay), Nicole Gianoukos, Andrew Gianoukos, Gracie Gianoukos, Ansley Gianoukos, and Brittany Gianoukos, as well as four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Carabatsos Magoulas. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in honor of Katherine Gianoukos to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 30 Race St., Charleston, SC 29403.
