Julia Michel Dyer

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Julia Michel Dyer, 80, of Charleston, SC, who passed away on January 20, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM Friday, January 31, 2025 at Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Road, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 5:00 & 7:00 PM Thursday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rosary will be recited at 6:45 PM.

Born on October 26, 1944 in Charleston, SC to Paschal A. and Olga Elizabeth Hatton Michel, Julia was someone who always lived from her heart, with kindness and integrity in everything she did. Her family was a very important part of her life. She was loyal and compassionate, and her loving patience touched each and every one of them.

Julia graduated from Bishop England High School and started working as a civil service secretary at the Charleston Navy Yard, where she met her future husband, CPO Eldon Lee Dyer, Jr. USN. The couple married and traveled extensively as a Navy family, living in Hawaii, Texas, Malta, Virginia, and eventually retiring to Charleston. After her children had grown, Julia returned to the workforce, joining Charleston Financial Advisors as a certified paraplanner for 19 years until her retirement in June of 2018. She was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Nativity on James Island, SC.

She is survived by her loving sons, Nathan Lee Dyer (Rachel), Josh Lee Dyer (Courtney), and Weston Lee Dyer (Allison); cherished grandchildren Evelyn Grace, Meredith Rose, Julianna Kate, Fletcher Edward Lee, Theodore Jean-Stephen, Cameron Lee, Jacob Alexander and Connor Landry Dyer; sisters Helen Michel Dodds (Kenneth A.), Mary Michel Mains (Chuck) and Madeleine (Meg) Michel Badger (Joe); nephews and nieces Paul Mains, James Badger, Nicole Mains Fagala (Paul) and Jennifer Badger Tanzer (John).

Julia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her parents-in-law, Eldon Lee Dyer, Sr. and Lucille Dyer, grandson Wyatt Landry Dyer, her brother-in-law Charles P. "Chuck" Mains and nephew Richard P. Mains.
