Juanita Alicia Schutt

January 24, 1950 — March 21, 2024

Juanita Alicia “Tootie” Schutt, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Her Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 30, 2024, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.The burial will held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Varnville Cemetery.

Tootie was born in Charleston, South Carolina on January 24, 1950. She graduated from St. Andrews High School (c/o 1968) and Winthrop College (c/o 1972). She was employed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services for 28 years, saving the lives of many children through her hard work and dedication. Among her various positions, she mainly worked in adoption services. She was a member of John Westley United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school, serving on various boards, and leading the youth group for many years.

Tootie was always the life of the party wherever she went. All occasions where family and friends were gathered were always full of laughter with her dry wit and humor that she was so well known and loved for. She was appreciated for her ability to counsel, guide, and comfort those that sought her help. She was loved by all who knew her.

Tootie is preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents; her father, Clayton D. Schutt; her mother, Juanita Ginn Schutt; her brother, Cecil Dubois Schutt and her beloved dog, Chloe.

Tootie is survived by her sister, Annette Schutt Bass; her “children” (nieces and nephews), Eric Bass (Kellie), Julianne Bass Moore (Joe), Jeanette Schutt, Stephen Schutt (Candace), Lauren Bass (Steve), Dora Bass Bullock (Danny); her great-nieces and nephews, Anna Moore, Will Moore, Noah Bullock, Aubrey Bullock; her great-great niece, Brooklynn Moore and her beloved cat, Zoe.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to John Wesley United Methodist Church or Lowcountry Orphan Relief, P.O. Box 70185, 1850 Truxtun Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405 (www.lowcountryorphanrelief.org).
