Josephine "Jody" Moore Griffin

Josephine Moore Griffin, (“Jody”), age 73, wife of Charles N. Griffin II, died on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the Hospice of Charleston, in Charleston, South Carolina, surrounded by family, after a brief, but courageous struggle with cancer. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Griffin II are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 18, 2017, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Church, 89 Hasell St., Charleston, South Carolina. The Rite of Committal will be private on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, North Carolina. The family will receive friends between 4:00 and 6:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy., Charleston, South Carolina, Friday afternoon. A Vigil Service will begin at 5:30 PM. Jody was born on May 25, 1944 to Berrien Moore, II and Mary Large Moore in Atlanta, Georgia, where she grew up. She graduated from Sweet Briar College in 1966 and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, Charles Nathaniel Griffin, II (“Chuck”). Jody supported Chuck while he obtained his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. After moving around during Chuck's service with the U.S. Marine Corps, they settled in Rochester, New York as he began a long career with Eastman Kodak. Together, they started a family and began life overseas with stops in Brazil, Panama, Venezuela, Peru, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Sweden, the Netherlands, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Jody and Chuck retired in Charleston in late 2014.Jody was an incredible and selfless person who lived life to the fullest. She always put others before herself and will be remembered for her generosity, loving heart, and grace. She loved to travel and immersed herself in the culture of the country in which she lived. Jody, who obtained a Master’s degree in Education Administration at Old Dominion University, pursued a lifelong career in education. She served as a guidance counselor and mentor to countless students in many different countries, helping them achieve their educational aspirations.Jody is survived by her husband, Chuck Griffin of Charleston, South Carolina; son, Charles Nathaniel Griffin, III (Trina) of Raleigh, North Carolina; son, Fr. Carter Harrell Griffin of Washington, D.C.; son, Edwin Alexander Griffin (Lindsay) of Charlotte, North Carolina; daughter, Cameron Moore Griffin of Carlsbad, California and her brother, Berrien Moore, III (Gail) of Norman, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jackson Samuel Griffin, William Nathaniel Griffin, Sadie Barrett Griffin, and Leila Carter Griffin. Jody was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Janet.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Missionaries of Charity (the religious order founded by Mother Teresa) at their convent in Washington: Gift of Peace, 2800 Otis St. NE, Washington, DC 20018.
