Joseph Edward Sweeney

August 15, 1923 — September 28, 2018

Joseph Edward Sweeney, 95, widower of Margaret Kathryn Gamble Sweeney entered into eternal rest on September 28, 2018. The relatives and friends of Joseph E. Sweeney are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Wednesday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.

Joseph was born August 15, 1923, in Charleston, SC. He was a son of John Patrick Sweeney and Mae Scharlock Sweeney. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church on Anson Street, where he served as an alter boy. Joseph joined the Navy in March of 1943. He served in World War II and obtained a victory medal. He retired from Westvaco.
