Joseph Kelly Condon, 71, ended his long battle with Parkinson’s disease on Friday, December 9, 2016. The relatives and friends of J. Kelly Condon are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM. His guestbook may be signed online at CharlestonFunerals.com. Kelly was a graduate of Bishop England High School, class of 1963 and Belmont Abbey College. He loved performing on stage with the Footlight Players in a number of plays and musicals including 'A Flea in Her Ear' and 'Something’s Afoot'. Kelly taught at Bishop England High School, worked at the family business Condon’s Department Store, The Golden Pineapple, J. Ryan’s Restaurant and Mori Luggage. He treasured his years of service to the Blessed Sacrament Church Choir. Kelly was the definition of a green thumb and loved gardening and photography, especially taking pictures of flowers and plants. The family asks that you consider wearing green to celebrate Kelly. Kelly was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Cope Condon and his parents, James Francis and Genevieve Kelly Condon. He is survived by his three daughters and their families: Colleen & Nichols Condon, Erin Buda, Dorie & Chris Wallace; his grandchildren: Jackson, Cray, Kate, Ryan, and Reed; his father-in-law Henry J. Cope, Sr.; his sisters and brothers: Rose and John Rowland, James and Dale Condon, Ryan and Cathy Condon, Betty and Wayne Koester and Tina Dickens; his siblings in law: Cynthia and Dave Forbes, Melinda Condon, Joye Gauthier and Henry and Denise Cope. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll Campbell Neuropathology Laboratory in the care of MUSC Foundation, 18 Bee Street, MSC 450, Charleston, SC 29525 to further Parkinson’s research in his memory.
