John West Trott of Charleston SC died in his home on February 8, 2018, at the age of 61. John was born August 30, 1956, in Charleston, SC to Cambridge Munro (Budge) Trott and Anne Jenkins Trott. He grew up in Charleston and in the marshes and creeks of the lowcountry and especially around his beloved family home in Rockville on Wadmalaw Island. As a child, he always wanted to be outdoors, running barefoot, climbing over fences, and running off the end of docks as early as the age of three. John lived a unique and independent life, in which his warmth and humor were generously shared with his family and friends.
John’s gentle and warm character touched the lives of all that he came in contact with during his lifetime. He loved his family, his friends and his many dogs. He was a gifted musician and songwriter, played his bass guitar in local venues and among his close friends throughout his life. He attended Charleston Day School, Porter-Gaud, Charleston High School, and was also a graduate of Trident Technical College. He was a construction estimator for the firm of Bishop and Sons Plumbing & Piping of James Island, SC.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife, Hermena Legare Kerrison Trott; his son, John West Trott, Jr.; step-children, Kerrison A. Schmutz and J. Stephen Schmutz, Jr.; sister, Anne M. Trott; brother, Cambridge M. Trott (Lisa); Nieces, Bryenne Trott and Madeleine Donaldson (Thomas); and brothers-in-law, George Legare Kerrison, Jr., L. Buist Kerrison (Lynne), Robert Heriot Kerrison, James I. Kerrison and many more nieces and nephews.
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Trott are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the graveside, Gregorie-Venning Cemetery, Venning Road, Mt. Pleasant. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Wednesday, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston.
