John W. Sheppard Jr., 74, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013, on James Island, after battling Alzheimer for many years. He was born in Lexington, SC, on March 12, 1939, the son of John W. Sheppard Sr. and Dorothy Gray Sheppard. Mr. Sheppard, graduated from Oak Clair High School in 1957 and attended two years of college at the University of South Carolina. He retired after 34 years from the U.S. Postal Service as station manager at the James Island branch. He was a member of the PADI Dive Association for 35 years, a member of the Sports Club of America and was an avid car enthusiast. Mr. Sheppard was preceded in death by his mother, father and daughter, Amanda A. Brown. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Harriet I. Brunson; his son, Lewis E. Brown and daughter-in-law, Stacia B. Brown, of Charleston, SC; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Harry A. Brunson and Irene C. Brunson, of Johns Island, SC; his sister-in-laws: Jennifer A. O'Niel, Rebecca Middleton and Nancy B. Sullivan, of Charleston, SC; his niece, Irene E. Sullivan and great niece, Aurora I. Sullivan, of Charleston, SC; his nephews: Robert Browne, Harry Brunson, Eulie Middleton and Jack King, of Charleston, SC; his brother and sister-in-law, Ronny and Ivie Sheppard, of Lexington, SC; his son, John W. Sheppard III and two grandsons, of Port St. Lucy, FL. His wife Harriet Brunson, would like to give a special thank you to Lutheran Hospice of Charleston and also to all the special people; Moia, Urina, Joyce, Shantel, Kim, Ann Lee, and to all the others who have helped John and Harriet over the years. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 1605 Harbor View Rd. The Committal Service will follow at Christ Episcopal Churchyard Cemetery, 2304 Highway 17 N, in Mt. Pleasant one hour after the conclusion of the Memorial Service.
